“The Egg” at the Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences, University of Vermont
This unique mural structure is covered both inside and out with custom drawings depicting the “Story of Food”, a visual and narrative summary of the philosophy and curriculum of the Department. The story begins at 17,000 BC and ends with topical issues taught at the school today. It is placed behind a glass wall at the main entry of the Department so it can be seen by students passing by as well as those entering the building. Thus, the Department and the building design communicate to all what goes on inside the classrooms (see Commercial and Institutional Architecture).
