Photographs of Grasslands Rocks 2010

In the landscape of the Grasslands, any object, man-made or natural takes on special significance by virtue of being a rare exception in what otherwise feels very empty space. While the Joshua Tree Rocks are always discovered in rock families in tight juxtapositions to other rocks, and the Vermont Rocks are nestled and clothed in vegetation and surrounded by a dense background, Grasslands Rocks are more often isolated within a very neutral setting. They may be erratics, left behind by retreating glaciers or baroque anomalies shaped by wind and water, but the scale is always deceiving because of the vast, spatial context.
